FAQ
Is it road-legal in the UK? Yes. CE EN15194 certified by TUV. As an EAPC it can be ridden on UK roads and cycle lanes — no licence, tax or insurance required. Minimum rider age is 14.
Why does the title say 750W if it's a 250W EAPC? The 750W figure is peak output — the maximum power the motor can deliver momentarily. The rated continuous power is 250W, which is what determines the legal classification. Both numbers are accurate; only the rated power matters for road legality.
How does the GPS / 4G anti-theft work? The bike has an integrated IoT module that uses GPS to track location and 4G to send alerts to your phone via the Engwe app. If the bike is moved while you've armed the anti-theft mode, you get a notification and can see the bike's location on a map. Bluetooth pairs the app for ride data and remote locking.
Does the IoT module need a SIM card or subscription? The 4G module is pre-paired and Engwe handles the cellular connection. There's no SIM to swap. After the initial included period, ongoing 4G connectivity may require a subscription — verify with Engwe before launch and we'll update the listing.
How does it compare to the EP-2 3.0 Boost? The Engine Pro 3.0 Boost adds full rear suspension (62 mm travel), upgrades torque from 75 Nm to 90 Nm, doubles charging speed (8A vs 4A), upgrades cells to Samsung 21700, and adds the GPS/4G IoT module. About 2.5 kg heavier and a higher price tier. The EP-2 3.0 Boost is the urban premium pick; this is the no-compromises flagship.
How does it compare to the Engine Pro 2.0? The Engine Pro 2.0 has a 52V system, Shimano Altus 8-speed (one tier up), and a bigger 832 Wh battery — it's the long-distance pick. The Engine Pro 3.0 Boost steps back to 48V and 720 Wh but adds full suspension, 90 Nm torque, IoT/GPS, and the magnesium step-through frame. Different riders: distance vs all-round flagship.
What's the real-world range? Real-world tested: 81 miles in PAS 1 (lowest assist), 67 miles in PAS 3, 50 miles in PAS 5 (full assist). Most owners will sit around PAS 3 and see 60-mile rides easily.
How fast does it charge? About 2.5 hours from empty using the supplied 8A charger. Significantly faster than the EP-2 3.0 Boost (4A, ~3.5h) or the Engine Pro 2.0 (~5.5h).
How waterproof is it? Wiring is IPX7 (immersible), display and lights IPX6 (heavy spray), motor and battery box IPX5 (rain). You can ride it in heavy rain without worry.
Why does the flagship use Shimano Tourney 7-speed when the Engine Pro 2.0 has the better Altus 8-speed? Engwe's call. The Tourney 7-speed is a step down from Altus on paper — fewer gears, slightly less refined shifting — but is reliable and well understood. If you ride mostly assist-on, the gear count matters less than the torque and battery. If you'd rather have the better drivetrain at the cost of the suspension, IoT and brakes, the Engine Pro 2.0 is the alternative.
