The Engwe N1 Air ST is a different kind of e-bike — a carbon fibre frame, 700×38C road tyres, and a kerb weight of just 16.4 kg. That's roughly half the weight of every other e-bike in the Engwe range, light enough to carry up apartment stairs with one hand and ride like a real bike when the motor's off. A torque sensor and the MIVICE M070 hub motor give smooth, proportional assistance up to 15.5 mph, and the Samsung 21700 cells deliver 62 miles of range in PAS 1. Step-through frame for easy mounting, solar-powered tail light that stays charged in daylight, and Shimano 7-speed gearing. Road-legal in the UK as an EAPC.

FAQ

Is it road-legal in the UK? Yes. As a 250W EAPC it can be ridden on UK roads and cycle lanes — no licence, tax or insurance required. Minimum rider age is 14.

Why is it so light? Carbon fibre frame, no suspension, road-tyre size, smaller battery, lighter MIVICE motor. Each of those decisions saves weight; together they get you to 16.4 kg, which is genuinely portable. For comparison, every other e-bike in the Engwe range is 30–35 kg — almost twice the weight.

Who is it for? Anyone who values weight, looks, and ride feel over fat-tyre comfort. Office commuters carrying a bike up apartment stairs, riders on public-transport-and-bike trips, anyone who already owns a regular bike and wants the e-bike equivalent without the fat-tyre tank aesthetic. The step-through frame makes it accessible for shorter and older riders too.

How does it compare to the fat-tyre Engwes? Different category entirely. The fat-tyre Engwes (EP-2 series, Engine series, L20 series, E26) are utility e-bikes — heavy, stable, comfortable, often folding. The N1 Air ST is a lightweight commuter — fast, nimble, looks like a normal bike, doesn't fold. Pick the fat-tyre range if you want comfort and utility; pick the N1 Air ST if you want a real bike that happens to have a motor.

What's a torque sensor? The bike measures how hard you're pedalling and matches the assistance to your effort. The result is much smoother power delivery than cadence-only sensors — closer to a premium e-bike than a cheap one. The MIVICE motor is also notably quieter than typical hub motors.

Does the solar tail light actually work? Yes — the solar panel charges a small internal battery during daylight, keeping the rear light topped up so it stays lit when you need it. Means you don't need to remember to charge it separately. Useful if you commute in low light all year round.

What's the real-world range? 62 miles is the manufacturer figure in PAS 1 (lowest assist) on flat ground. Mixed riding — using more assist on hills, full assist into headwinds — typically gives 25–40 miles. The 360 Wh battery is smaller than the fat-tyre Engwes', but the bike is roughly half the weight, so it doesn't need as much energy to move.

How long does charging take? 5–8 hours from empty, depending on the state of the battery. Samsung 21700 cells with 1000+ cycle lifespan — a few years of daily commuting before any noticeable capacity drop.

Does it fold? No. The N1 Air ST is a fixed-frame full-size bike. If folding matters, look at the EP-2 Boost, EP-2 3.0 Boost, Engine X, Engine Pro 2.0, Engine Pro 3.0 Boost, or L20 3.0 Boost.

What about suspension? None — the frame is rigid carbon fibre and the fork is aluminium. The 38C road tyres provide enough cushioning for tarmac and well-paved cycle lanes. If you're riding cobbles, gravel or trails regularly, the Engine X or Engine Pro 3.0 Boost are the better picks.

Is it suitable for taller / shorter riders? Yes. Frame fits riders 5'1" to 6'2" (155–188 cm) thanks to the 10-level adjustable seat post and step-through geometry.
