FAQ
Can I ride it on the road? No. UK law currently makes privately-owned e-scooters illegal on roads, pavements and cycle lanes — regardless of speed or power. Ride only on private land where you have the landowner's permission.
How fast does it really go? Up to 15.5 mph at the default speed limit. The ES80 has a manufacturer-set speed cap to match EU regulations; some configurations let you adjust it via the app, but we ship and recommend it at the default 15.5 mph.
What's the real-world range? 18 miles is the manufacturer figure for an average rider on flat ground at moderate speed. Hills, full throttle, headwinds, and a heavier rider will reduce that — typical real-world is 12–15 miles per charge.
Why solid tyres? Won't they be uncomfortable? Solid (honeycomb / anti-skid) tyres can't puncture — no inner tubes, no flats, no faff. The trade-off is they transmit more vibration than air tyres, so the ride feels firmer over rough surfaces. For commuting on tarmac or smooth paving, most riders prefer the no-puncture peace of mind. For off-road or rougher ground, look at the bigger Kukirin scooters with pneumatic tyres.
How does the app work? The ES80 pairs to either the AOVOPRO app or Tuya Smart over Bluetooth. The app shows ride data (speed, distance, battery), lets you change settings (speed limits, KERS regen strength, cruise mode), and includes a remote lock. Both apps are free; Tuya Smart is the more widely-used and integrates with other smart-home Tuya products if you have any.
Will I receive the AOVOPRO or Tuya Smart version? AOVOPRO have moved newer batches to the Tuya Smart app to consolidate their app stack — both work the same way, just different branding. Either is fine.
How does the cruise mode work? Hold the throttle steady for 10 seconds and the ES80 holds that speed automatically — release the throttle or touch the brake to disengage. Useful for longer flat rides where you don't want to keep your thumb pinned.
How does it fold? Latch at the base of the stem releases — push the stem forward and it locks down to the deck for carrying or storage. About 5 seconds, no tools.
How long does it take to charge? 4–5 hours from empty using the supplied UK charger.
How heavy is it? 12 kg — the lightest scooter in our range. Easy to lift onto a train carriage or carry up stairs single-handed.
How does it compare to the Kukirin scooters? Different category. The Kukirin range (G2, G2 Pro, G2 Master, G3 Pro, G4) is performance and off-road — 28 to 43 mph, 600W to 2400W, 25 to 44 kg. The AOVOPRO ES80 is the entry commuter pick — 15.5 mph, 350W, 12 kg, app-connected. Pick the AOVO if you want something light and simple for short trips.
